We were at the 5th Birthday Party for our great niece. One of her gifts was a pair of leg warmers. She was THRILLED . . she has just started dance classes and now she has something like "the big girls."
I thought to myself, "A-HA! I can make her a pair of those for Christmas . . . and I did.
Well, that seemed like a small gift, so next came the ear flap hat. While making it I remembered seeing a hat with a heart around one eye. Couldn't find that pattern, so I designed my own heart.
While working on the hat, which is made from two yarns held together (our niece lives in an area that is very cold, winds off of Lake Ontario and snow to the armpits at times) so the hat would be warm when she waited on the school bus.
I had to play with the nose and whiskers. I know a cat has a "squared off triangle" for a nose, and I wanted it to be softer than the rest of the "fur" so I used #3 crochet thread.
Kind of looks like a birds beak in this close-up :) |
Then, one last idea . . . how about an ear warmer/headband? Then she could wear that on the days it wasn't so cold.
The triangle end is made with double crochets so the button can be placed anywhere from this row to the point. |
So, all in all, I think she is getting a pretty nice pink ensemble for Christmas 2013.
