Jessika's Square

In the Softly Spring Swap, in Vanna's Choice Fan Club, on Ravelry, I had made eleven of the twelve 9" x 9" squares I needed. Ten of the squares have been mailed out, #11 is blocked and in it's envelope and I was searching for a pattern for #12.

I remembered a square I had made quite a while ago for Merrian in another swap in Vanna's Choice. I designed it for her. I really liked how it turned out.

Merrian's Square

There was something about the simplicity of the stitches and the colors that I like.

I tried to copy it for my last Softly Spring square, but I only had soft pink, pink, olive and chocolate to work with, She only wanted olive and chocolate for accents. It would have worked had I not run out of the white that was one of the colors we were using.

So, I took two steps back and punted. Here is the square I came up with.

New Blocks

Just started a new swap . . Simply Spring Swap. This swap is in the Vanna's Choice Fan Club on Ravelry. We are using the Vanna colors of  chocolate, olive, pink, soft pink,  and white. When you hold these colors together, they look like a branch of a Cherry Tree when it is in blossom.

Here are my first three squares for the 12 square afghan.
All patterns are free
and can be accessed
by licking their names below the pictures.

The colors, in person, are so much more vibrant than they show in these pictures. I can't wait to see what the squares are that I receive. Right now I am planning on edging each square that I get with the chocolate. I think t hat will make the squares jump out of the afghan

Merrian's Square

I have fallen in love wih the Va-Va Victorian colors from the Ravelry group Vanna's Fan Club Va-Va Victorian Swap. Even though I am not a member of the swap, I had to make some squares for myself.
The only Vanna's Choice colors used in this Swap are:
Beige ~ a creamy off white
Burgundy ~ burgundy wine
Cranberry ~ dark red
Dusty Green ~ a dusty kale green
Lamb ~ an off-white, light tender cream (this is Vanna's Choice Baby Yarn)
Olive ~ an olive green
Center Heart Square
Merrian's Granny
with pattern below

Yarn: Vanna's Choice Burgundy, Lamb and Olive
Crochet Hook - J
Tapestry Needle

Comment: This square was designed as a gift for my fiend Merrian in Ravelry.

*NOTE: If you need to adapt the number of stitches you skip on Rounds 5, 8 and 17, don’t worry. I always seem to make some kind of mistake when I am doing sc’s, and this has always worked out fine. It is a VERY forgiving pattern.

Start with a Magic Circle (Magic Ring)

Round 1: Ch 3, 2 dc into ring, ch 2, (3 dc in ring, Ch 2, ) twice, sl st to top of ch 3, sl st to corner. (12 dc, 4 ch 2 sp)

Round 2: Ch 5, 3 dc in same space, ch 1. [(3 dc ch 2, 3 dc) ch 1] in corner, repeat in next corner, in beginning corner, 2dc, sl st to3rd ch of beginning ch 5. (24 dc, 4-ch 2sp, 4-ch 1 sp)

Round 3:Ch 2, 2sc in same sp, (sc in each sp and dc to next corner, 3 sc in corner), repeat 3 times, sc in each sp and dc to next corner, sc in corner, sl st to 1st sc. (40 sc)

Round 4: Repeat Round 3. (48 sc)

*Round 5: Ch 5, 3 dc in same space, *ch 1, ( sk 3 st, 3 dc in next st) repeat to corner, [(3 dc ch 2, 3 dc) ] * in corner, repeat from * to * twice, ch 1, ( sk 3 st, 3 dc in next st) repeat to corner, ch 1, 2 dc in corner, sl st to 3rd ch of beginning chain 5. ( 36 dc, 4-ch 2 sps, 12 -ch 1 sps)

Round 6–7: Repeat Round 3.

*Round 8: Repeat Round 5.

Round 9-16: Repeat Round 3

*Round 17: Repeat Round 5.

Round 18: Repeat Round 3

Using the Tapestry Needle, weave in ends.
