Garland's Frost

Several years ago, when we still lived in Indiana, I found a pattern for a Christmas Garland. To make it, you bought a string of beads (from the Christmas Dept. of any store) and crocheted an edging around it.

I thought that I would make another one this year ... being in the crochet mood and all. But, I had no idea where the pattern was, nor did I even remember what it was in .... a book, pamphlet, plain piece of paper?

So, I figured I could "whip" one up myself. I bought a gold beaded garland and got out my Christmas, variegated crochet thread and started to crochet the edging onto the garland. MAN! It was taking me forever. I would measure it from finger-tip to underarm, figuring it was approximately 3 feet. Then I did it again, and again, and again, and I can't remember how many times I did it and still was no where near the end.

I decided at this point to find the label I had torn off to see how long this garland actually was. I about DIED when I read 18 feet! I think I will probably be dead by the time this ever gets done. How Grandma ever worked with crochet thread and made what she did is amazing to me. It is taking me forever to do this and I swear she could whip up a dishcloth out of the same thread in no time.... at least it seamed like no time in the eyes of a little girl. And the dining room table clothes! I don't even want to think of the time they took.

Thanks Mom for giving me the tablecloth Grandma made for Margaret. I treasured it when you gave it to me and now that I actually understand the hours of labor Grandma put in, I am awe-struck!
